HEALTH INSPECTOR

Southern Seven Health Department is seeking applications for a full time position that is based at the Rustic Campus of Shawnee College in Ullin, Illinois. The Health Inspector conducts field and office activities related to Environment Health programs and prepares reports. Duties include inspection of food service establishments throughout the seven counties.
Qualifications: At a minimum the applicant must have an High School Diploma or GED; preference will be given to those with experience in performing inspections.
Pay Scale: $19.02 - $22.85 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Conducts assigned food establishment inspections to ensure compliance with the FDA Food Code and existing local county food ordinances. Conducts follow-up and reporting as necessary.
  • Prepares electronic inspection reports an presents findings to the food establishment, with recommended corrective actions to assure compliance with applicable state laws, local county ordinances, rules, and regulations.
  • Assists with collections under prescribed methods environmental samples for laboratory analysis to ensure compliance.
  • Investigates public complaints regarding environmental health problems and hazards and initiates enforcement or corrective action as required.
  • Assists in epidemiological surveys, including but not limited to foodborne illness outbreaks, unhealthy conditions, and methods of control and correction.
  • Assists the EH with investigations, follow-up, and resolutions of animal bite complaints.
  • Maintains field records, inspections, investigations, and documentation of all work performed.
  • Assists the EH with inspections of private, non-community, and geo-thermal well systems according to the Illinois Water Well Construction Code.
  • Assists the EH with reviewing plans and specifications for proposed private sewage systems according to Illinois Private Sewage Disposal Code.
  • Establishes a positive working environment with the public, contractors, and local government officials to ensure compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Responds to emergency calls from EH/EPD at all times, unless specified otherwise. Responsible for carrying agency phone during working hours and responding to calls and messages in a timely manner.
  • Establishes daily, weekly, and monthly priorities in concert with the EH/EPD in developing work plans. Takes a proactive approach to job functions, anticipates problems, and develops preventive action plans and strategies.
  • Responsible for participating in activities and attitudes that promote positive public relations and a positive image for the agency.
  • Complies and is familiar with the requirements of the policies and procedures adopted by Southern Seven Health Department as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performs public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with training provided.
  • Collects mosquito pools as assigned by Supervisor as per the Vector Program requirements.
  • Assists with tick surveillance activities as assigned.
