POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Health Director, this position plays a key role in delivering health and wellness programs that promote the physical, mental, and cultural well-being of the Esquimalt Nation community. This role is an active community position which involves a high degree of hands-on care, training and coaching, community outreach and building partnerships with clients and caregivers in the community.
This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health and wellness programs that are culturally appropriate and responsive to the unique needs of the Nation, honouring its traditions and values. The Health Manager leads a team of health professionals, coordinates community engagement efforts, and manages member benefits administration. Additionally, the Health Manager acts as the Health Director during absences and contributes to the strategic direction and success of health services as a member of the Management Team.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • A degree in a related field (e.g.: nursing, healthcare management, human services, health sciences, social development, etc.) and 3 years relevant experience, including supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered, such as:
  • Diploma in related discipline and 5 years relevant experience.
  • Health Director Certificate through First Nations Health Directors Association is an asset.

  • Knowledge of leadership and management process, tools and protocols.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE TO BUILD ON

  • Knowledge of Esquimalt/Indigenous People and culture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the political, cultural and spiritual protocols of First Nations communities.
  • Knowledge of the health and wellness challenges and opportunities specific to Esquimalt Nation.
  • Knowledge of the structure of health and wellness services in BC and how the health systems interact.
  • Knowledge of the health and wellness programs, services and related resources offered by First Nations organizations as well as by the federal and provincial governments.
