HEALTH & SAFETY ADVISOR

Location: York (with travel to project sites as required)
Salary: £33,000 – £40,000 + Company Car or Car Allowance + Strong Holiday & Pension
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional night shift audits and overnight stays during peak project periods

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience within a Construction setting,
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate is highly desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight (up to 1–2 nights per week during busy periods).
  • Flexibility to support both day and night shift site activities as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and dedicated Health & Safety Advisor to support the effective delivery of SHEQ management across construction and business operations. This role is instrumental in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and contributing to continual improvement within a dynamic work environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertake pre-construction site assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks early.
  • Develop and maintain Construction Phase Plans in line with CDM Regulations.
  • Conduct scheduled and ad hoc audits and inspections, ensuring adherence to internal policies and legal requirements.
  • Produce comprehensive audit and inspection reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Deliver safety briefings, including stand-down sessions, to site teams and contractors.
  • Lead or support investigations into incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participate in client health and safety tours and represent the organisation professionally and collaboratively.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by engaging employees and subcontractors in HSQE initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance on the preparation and review of risk assessments for both operational and construction activities.
