Description

Acden Aves is an Indigenous environmental contractor that provides avian and wildlife deterrent services at various oil sands mines, keeping birds and wildlife away from the tailings ponds and other process-affected water bodies.
We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to join our team in Fort McMurray. Reporting to the HSE Lead, the role will support the delivery of the corporate safety plan at our client sites. The Safety Advisor will work with supervisors, workers, and the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees to assist in executing the company’s OHS management system in order to maintain a healthy and safe workplace. The Safety Advisor will monitor for compliance with applicable legislation, regulation, policies and procedures and report deficiencies to appropriate management.

Qualifications:

  • A Grade 12 diploma plus at least one year of experience in a related role or capacity.
  • A certificate or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and clean driving history.
  • A passion for safety and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to pass a drug & alcohol test, including random tests.

Responsibilities

Environment, Health, and Safety Management:

  • Input and report on EH&S metrics
  • Manage all site safety and EH&S documentation, procedures and reporting
  • Manage related Workhub information and reporting
  • Attend and contribute to toolbox talks
  • Conduct workplace and behaviour-based observations
  • Conduct hazard IDs and vehicle inspections
  • Support the EHS Manager in the development and implementation of SOPs
  • Assist with the COR Certification process, including related audits and inspections
  • Conduct field observations and visits for our teams in their respective work areas
  • Support and demonstrate leadership during safety campaigns and field visits
  • Support the EHS Manager and Site Supervisors during Incident/Accident/Investigations
  • Demonstrate leadership and act as a role model in the rollout of safety programs and campaigns
