Main Purpose: Puma Energy Bitumen has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking HSSE leader to shape the future of safety across our Australian operations. The National HSSE Manager will lead the development and implementation of the HSSE strategy for the Australian business, ensuring alignment with global and regional objectives. This is a highly visible leadership role with direct influence over operational performance, risk management, and safety culture across six terminals nationwide Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and delivery of the Australia HSSE Strategy, driving performance improvement and embedding a proactive safety culture. Partner with the Australian Senior Leadership Team to integrate HSSE into business planning, operations, and investment decisions. Provide coaching and direction to HSSE professionals and operational leaders, ensuring consistent standards and capability development across all sites. Oversee national HSSE compliance and assurance programs, including audits, incident investigations, and regulatory engagement. Support the design and execution of critical risk management, emergency response, and business continuity programs. Monitor and analyse HSSE performance data to identify emerging trends, develop improvement plans, and influence leadership decision-making. Collaborate with regional and global HSSE teams to align systems, share learning, and contribute to broader strategic initiatives. Represent the Australian business in regulator and industry forums to strengthen compliance and operational reputation. Our ideal candidate will be an inspiring and credible HSSE professional who combines technical depth with strong leadership and stakeholder influence. They are motivated by improving systems, developing people, and achieving tangible results through collaboration and trust. They will bring: 10+ years’ HSSE leadership experience in high-risk industries (Oil & Gas, Terminals, Manufacturing, or Construction). Bachelor’s or Post Graduate degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent discipline (postgraduate preferred). Proven ability to manage national HSSE programs and drive cultural and behavioural improvement. Strong understanding of Australian WHS and environmental legislation, Dangerous Goods (AS1940), and ISO standards (45001, 14001, 45003). Demonstrated experience in risk management, process safety, and regulatory engagement. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and engage diverse teams. Capability to travel nationally as required (approx. 50–60%). As a preference, you will have: Experience in Laboratory Health & Safety Management Systems Experience supporting workers' compensation claims management and return to work management. Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM). Exposure to sustainability and ESG-related initiatives. Knowledge of the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road & Rail (ADG) Code.
