Department: Health, Safety and Environment Office Job Posting Details The appointee will assist in the implementation of the University’s safety policies on managing of various physical, engineering and general safety hazards encountered in teaching, research, and operational activities, including contractor projects on campus. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following: Manage University incident/accident data and trends; Manage the University’s food hygiene programme; Conduct risk assessment, safety inspections and routine patrol; Prescribe hazards control measures; Approve hot work and confined space permits; Monitor safety of construction and repairs and maintenance works; Assist in implementing event safety management programme; Provide Health and Safety training and organize promotion activities; Assist in collecting occupational and environmental samples; Respond to emergencies during office and non-office hours; and Perform other duties assigned by the direct supervisor. The appointee with no relevant health and safety professional qualifications, such as MIOSH or CSP, is expected to continue pursuing professional knowledge and skills in occupational safety and hygiene, and the Office will provide suitable staff development opportunities with the aim to support the appointee in attaining the relevant qualifications. On-call duty outside normal office hours on a rotational basis may be required. Applicants should have a degree in facility management or engineering, preferably in mechanical, electrical, building services, or a similar discipline, with at least three years of relevant experience. A registered safety officer qualification is a must. (Duration: 2 years, renewable) Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
