We are currently seeking a Health, Safety, and Environment Supervisor to support our QEII project in Halifax, NS. The QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Program (HIEP) is a 1.2 million square foot expansion of the Province of Nova Scotia’s existing QEII campus being completed under a complex P3 contract structure. PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is collaborating with multiple partners from across the country to undertake the single largest healthcare infrastructure project considered in Nova Scotia.
Here’s how a Health, Safety, and Environment Supervisor for our Ottawa office on this project in Halifax, NS, contributes to our team:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Secondary education (i.e. Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or certificate) in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Holds safety designation.
  • 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
Responsibilities
  • Implements and supports project HSE plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to safe work practices, while maintaining a strong, proactive presence in the field.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification.
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance.
  • Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators, PCL staff, trade contractors and workers.
