QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree-level qualification in Health and Safety Management or equivalent.
  • Graduate Membership of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health).

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Excellent knowledge of business continuity frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of e-capabilities for H&S services, including commissioning and evaluating activities.
  • Knowledge of safety improvement methodologies and frameworks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation, management systems, and standards.
  • Experience providing health and safety services within a local authority setting.
  • Experience handling stress cases, carrying out full DSE assessments, and delivering training.
  • Track record of improving H&S compliance, carrying out audits, investigations, and risk assessments.
Responsibilities

WHAT’S INVOLVED WITH THIS ROLE:

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will provide a professional and practical advisory service across the Council, supporting the delivery of safe working environments and the continuous improvement of health and safety performance. The post holder will support the implementation of health and safety management systems, including ISO 45001, ensuring compliance with current legislation, policies, and best practice. This role will involve advising, training, and investigating incidents to reduce risk, strengthen wellbeing initiatives, and promote a positive safety culture across the organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and training on all aspects of health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Support the Head of Health & Safety in delivering the annual work plan, aligned with statutory requirements.
  • Ensure the Council is kept up to date with relevant legislation, standards, and best practice.
  • Investigate health and safety incidents, including Serious Incidents, to identify root causes, mitigate risks, and share lessons learned.
