THE OPPORTUNITY

Ram Iron & Metal is looking for a dedicated and experienced dedicated and experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join our Team. The Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor under the direction of the Director, Human Resources will be the hands-on representative whose main goal is to facilitate all the basic Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) functions with a primary focus on all employees.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5 - 7 years of experience demonstrating comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation, practices and protocols
  • College Diploma or University Degree, preferably in Health & Safety or a closely related field
  • CRST designation or actively working towards CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation
  • First Aid Certification, along with JHSC Level II required, or ability to achieve
  • 2-3 years of experience in ISO management, specifically in ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001 standards
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Knowledge and experience in metal recycling, manufacturing or waste management an asset
  • Self-reliant with the ability to follow through on assignments in the absence of guidance
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES

  • Coordinate and implement the health and safety company program to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Establish documented policies, procedures and safe work instructions with annual review and update as required.
  • Accountable for successful conformance on all internal and external audits and inspections.
  • Oversee the Return-to-Work Program, acting as liaison with WSIB (Workplace Safety Insurance Board) and managing both work-related and non-work-related claims.
  • Plan and coordinate monthly JSHC work inspection of all site locations, and quarterly JHSC meetings.
  • Manage compliance and safety training as per the Company’s training matrix.
  • Coordinate evacuation and spill drill training as appropriate for all site locations.
  • Ensure WHMIS 2015/GHS chemical safety standards are upheld and maintained.
  • Facilitate, assess, and monitor contractor health and safety qualifications, ensuring on-site compliance with established safety standards and regulations.
  • Promote safety in the workplace by advising all workplace parties in hazard recognition and control and preventing unsafe work conditions or practices.
  • Conduct all necessary reporting and assessments for environmental waste or testing reports, liaising with relevant third parties as necessary.
  • Collaborate as the ISO coordinator, liaising with ISO auditors and consultants to ensure compliance with ISO standards, maintain certifications, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead incident investigations, employing root cause analysis methodologies to identify underlying factors and implement corrective actions.
  • Initiate and uphold waste reduction initiatives, ensuring their ongoing effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Oversee the procurement, distribution, and compliance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), spill response supplies, and fire response equipment across all sites.
  • Liaison with regulatory authorities including the Ministry of Environment (MOE), Ministry of Labour (MOL), Ministry of Transportation (MTO), City of Toronto, and other relevant government agencies as necessary.
  • Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listing above.
