ROLE SCOPE:
Reporting directly into the Quality Assurance Manager, the HSE Engineer is to have a strong technical competency and legislative knowledge of health, safety, & environment.
This role will support employees across the company in promoting a positive culture through strong leadership and utilisation of best practices. With a range of products and processes across the site, the business is looking for an individual who is experienced in HSE knowledge and has a hands on approach and is confident in delivering cultural improvements.
The HSE Engineer is responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to Health, Safety and Environment with respect to Legislation, Company Policy and Management System and client requirements, thereby reducing risks to the business. May also have a direct responsibility for HSE Advisors and Coordinators within the Business Unit or Contract/Projects. The HSE Engineer is also required to assist with all Quality and Stores matters as required by the company from time to time.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Managing and maintaining the First Aid Room, Defibrillator and First Aid Kits on site.
· Managing and maintaining the HSE documents and procedures.
· Reviewing and managing the company HSE policies alongside the management team.
· Managing and maintaining the company risk assessments.
· Managing and maintaining the permit to work system.
· Reviewing and managing RoHS, REACH, and other iterations of compliance enquiries.
· Working with all departments to reduce HSE risks and make HSE improvements.
· Collecting and reporting of HSE data monthly (or as required).
· Conducting HSE and QA training for employees where applicable i.e., new employee inductions, job change inductions, safety awareness training, etc.
· Leading the company HSE meetings and managing any actions.
· Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming Health & Safety, and Environmental legislation and ensure the business has appropriate systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance.
· Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health & Safety, and Environment within their areas of responsibility which includes conducting regular audits.
· Maintain the accident and near miss database and prepare reports for Health & Safety Committee using statistical and other analytical tools. Inform the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of accidents or incidents that require notification (Riddor).
· Keep up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer’s industry.
· Management of ISO14001 & 45001 including external audits by BSI.
· Providing support to senior Managers in incident and accident investigations with an appropriate investigation process (IRB or similar).
· Developing HSE presentational material to support inductions and Group initiatives.
