POSITION OVERVIEW

In this role you will collaborate with peers to achieve plant safety and environmental goals, support business results, develop our site safety vision and support the overall plant/business mission.
Join the Joplin Foodservice Manufacturing Facility as a Health Safety & Environmental Manager. In this role you will collaborate with peers to achieve plant goals, support business results and the plant mission. The Joplin North American Foodservice (NAF) facility makes frozen products, Pillsbury biscuits and pie in a non-union plant with 580 employees. This role will report directly to the Plant Manager and be an active member of the site leadership team. This individual will be expected to help set tactical as well as strategic direction for both the HSE function and overall site. This role will have 2-3 direct reports and will assume other key leadership responsibilities requiring flexibility, agility, and problem solving.

    The site Health Safety & Environmental acts as a coach and advisor to the site, providing support and technical assistance in managing safety and environmental critical risks. Enables operational learning through application of human performance principles, while assisting the site in maintaining compliance with local regulatory and safety & environmental requirements. Implements standards and procedures that protect human safety and the environment. This role will be the primary contact to the Global Safety & Environmental team to develop the required strategies and plans to ensure on-going compliance and advancing our safety culture journey.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Serves as the site’s primary point of contact and resource for health, safety & environmental issues at the facility.
  • Leads the application of human performance principles to site work systems.
  • Engages differentially with Team Members to better understand and manage critical S&E risks.
  • Ensures the impact of regulatory changes on the businesses are being managed appropriately.
  • Ensures completion and submittal of all required Environmental reports for the facility.
  • Leads compliance assurance efforts by facilitating frequent S&E self-assessments and tracks corrective action plans to completion.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and prioritization for site S&E objectives as part of the site planning process.
  • Mentors, develops, and builds capability in Site S&E Process Owners.
  • Monitors facility performance against S&E goals and objectives and communicates results to Central Safety Committee.
  • Reports company-required S&E metrics at required frequencies in GSTEMS.
  • Actively participates in change management such as relocation, modification, and decommissioning of any affected facility, equipment, or process.
  • Ensures site S&E risk analyses are performed and communicated to the Plant Leadership Team, Central Safety Committee, and Regional S&E Leader.
  • Collaborates with other business functions and participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Provides support to the site to address regulatory inspections and complaints.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in the analysis of operational events with significant human safety impact (fire, chemical releases, fatalities, severe or multiple injuries, etc.) and follow-up on corrective actions ensuring information is shared throughout the Company to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Develop a holistic safety strategy and plan for execution through the integration of Safety Leadership and Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) Principles. Serve as a process owner for this plan to ensure the plant leadership team is following a robust PDCA cycle and delivering on our plan.
  • Complete ownership of medical case management/workman’s compensation program in partnership with HR.
  • Manage safety on-boarding and training process and maintain required training records.
  • Direct ownership of planning and leading plant wellness activities.
  • Provide expertise on OSHA, workers compensation claim management, incident investigation, incident root cause analysis, and other compliance initiatives to ensure the facility meets all corporate and regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene or demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable work experience
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and project management skills
  • Effectively delivered results through others by managing salaried employees and/or leading cross-functional teams
  • Solid business judgment including demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of technology (i.e. complexities of products, machinery, and costs)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; proficient in English
  • Proficient in computer software applications
  • Ability to develop and lead strategic initiatives
  • Working knowledge of local HSE regulations
  • Experience in food and beverage manufacturing or related field
