About the opportunity
Pan Pac Forest Products is a fully integrated company with three operational areas: Forests, Lumber and Pulp. As Health and Safety Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance across all operations, meeting the obligations of a Major Hazard Facility. You will report to the General Manager, People and Culture and lead a team of three: Health and Safety Advisor, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor, Health and Safety Systems Administrator. Your role is to champion of health, safety and wellbeing strategies that are practical, effective and aligned with business needs (including Pan Pac (Otago) Ltd). Your ability to balance compliance with operational realities will be key to your success in this role.

In partnership with the Executive team, you will:

  • lead a positive safety culture through visible leadership, audits, inspections, communication, mentoring, support, and continuous improvement.
  • ensure compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, helping the business navigate the complexities of operating a Major Hazard Facility.
  • collaborate with divisional Health & Safety Advisors, providing practical support to help them achieve business goals, while maintaining a strong safety culture.

This role is full-time, Monday – Friday, based at our Whirinaki site located 15 mins north of Napier.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a solution-focused leader with experience in high-risk industrial environments.

You also have:

  • a relevant tertiary qualification
  • minimum of 7 years’ experience in senior health and safety roles, preferably in safety sensitive industrial or manufacturing environments
  • strong interpersonal, relationship and influencing skills
  • experience with incident investigation
  • in-depth knowledge of the HSWA and ACC Accredited Employee Programme
  • a solid understanding of the functionality of Office 365
  • proven ability to plan and organise well, multitask and achieve required outcomes
  • the ability to work logically and methodically with good attention to detail
  • experience with leading people and implementing change
  • an ability to respond quickly to changes in priorities or urgent requirements as they arise
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • a strong customer service focus
  • the ability to work with a diverse range of roles and levels in an organisation
