Description

OVERVIEW

We are a growing, sustainability-focused business with two specialist divisions: renewable energy installation (including solar, heat pumps, boilers, insulation, and other low-carbon technologies) and upholstery services (furniture restoration, commercial fit-outs, and bespoke sustainable furnishings). Our mission is to deliver high-quality services while championing environmental responsibility and workplace safety across everything we do.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

· - NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
· - Proven experience in a health and safety role within a practical, multi-trade environment – ideally across construction, renewables, or manufacturing.
· - Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practices.
· - Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels – from site operatives to directors.
· - Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites and workshops.
· - Excellent written and organisational skills for documentation, compliance logs, and reports.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

As Health and Safety Officer, you will lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and compliance across our business. This includes overseeing field-based operations (e.g. rooftop solar installations) cavity wall and loft insulation and workshop-based activities (e.g. upholstery production using tools, adhesives, and textiles). Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you’ll play a key strategic and operational role in ensuring that all staff, contractors, and clients are protected through best-in-class health and safety systems and behaviours.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· - Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive Health & Safety Management System tailored to both renewable energy and upholstery environments.
· - Ensure company-wide compliance with relevant legislation: HSAWA 1974, CDM 2015, COSHH, PUWER, RIDDOR, Working at Height Regulations, etc.
· - Conduct regular site and workshop inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
· - Produce and maintain up-to-date documentation including RAMS (risk assessments and method statements), SSOW, training logs, and accident reports.
· - Investigate incidents and near misses; analyse root causes and implement preventative actions.
· - Provide H&S induction and refresher training to all new and existing staff.
· - Advise the MD and senior management team on health and safety performance and legislative updates.
· - Monitor compliance and safety on installations carried out at client premises, including schools, care homes, housing associations, and private dwellings.
· - Manage contractor safety and site-specific induction processes.
· - Work collaboratively across teams to promote a proactive safety culture that values both innovation and craftsmanship and complete monthly reports.
