Description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead the implementation of a professional, competent, and knowledge-sharing safety culture across our organisation. This role is critical in ensuring best-in-class environmental, health, and safety (EHS) practices are planned, implemented, and maintained across all projects. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in residential and commercial construction in Ireland and a strong ability to engage with contractors and project teams to manage and mitigate health and safety risks.
Principal Construction is a leading main building contractor based in Dublin, renowned for delivering high-quality projects with excellence and integrity. With over 25 years of experience and a team of 40+ professionals, we operate across a diverse range of sectors including one off residential, commercial, educational, healthcare, and industrial. Our clients include government bodies, corporate entities, and private individuals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction health & safety in Ireland.
  • IOSH membership an advantage
  • Instructor certification in Manual Handling, Working at Height, or Abrasive Wheels (advantageous but not essential).

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Proven ability to drive change, influence behaviours and champion best practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of Irish health & safety regulations and emerging trends.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to adopt and utilise new technologies (e.g., online platforms, mobile apps).
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and approachable manner.
  • Full clean driving licence (essential).

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior management to promote a positive health and safety culture across the business.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 certification.
  • Maintain annual Safe-T-Cert certification.
  • Develop and implement Construction Stage Plans, Traffic Management Plans, Waste Management Plans, etc., in collaboration with project teams.
  • Review and update Risk Assessments, Method Statements, SOPs, Health & Safety Policies, and Safety Statements; communicate updates to relevant personnel.
  • Ensure Site Managers and Supervisors are actively engaged in audits and H&S management systems.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor and report on hazards identified during inspections via the online management system.
  • Review subcontractor safety documentation and ensure compliance before engagement.
  • Support Site Supervisors in delivering Safety Induction Training and maintaining training records.
  • Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and preventative actions are communicated.
  • Manage employee training programmes and maintain CPD records; identify and ensure delivery of mandatory training.
  • Compile and communicate weekly/monthly safety data to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of company-wide Safety Management Systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and industry best practices; implement necessary changes.
  • Provide proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement in EHS management.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with directors, operations managers, project managers, and contractors.
