We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Safety Professional to join our team on a major tunnel project. The Health & Safety System Lead will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Health and Safety Management Plan for the Fraser River Tunnel Replacement Project, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protocols for construction activities with WorkSafe BC. The ideal candidate has experience in construction safety on civil infrastructure projects in BC and a strong commitment to minimizing risks and promoting a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead the development and support implementation of Project Health and Safety Management plan, site safety plans, procedures and protocols for construction activities in compliance with WorkSafe BC
  • Lead the development of Project emergency, first aid and rescue Plans, proceed with contractor consultation related to this topic to structure the organization and necessary resources.
  • Ensure adherence to local, provincial, and federal health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Support Site Safety officers to respond promptly in case of incidents Conduct thorough investigations and prepare detailed reports with corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify risks associated with construction activities, including excavation, , civil works, marines dredging, lifting operations, concrete batching plant, piling, machinery operations…
  • Develop and update Project hazard analyses and risk assessments for all project tasks.
  • Act as a point of contact for safety-related matters, coordinating with subcontractors, project managers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Communicate safety updates and changes to all stakeholders through regular meetings and notices.
  • Encourage a culture of safety through ongoing engagement, recognition, and feedback initiatives.
  • Serve as a role model for safety-first behavior and practices on the project site.

THIS ROLE COULD BE FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing safety programs, preferably in civil and/or marine construction projects
  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, standards, and best practices in BC.
  • Experience developing safety programs and protocols and strong Technical writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Office or equivalent to prepare process flowchart
  • Experience in delivering training programs.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in safety management software (SiteDocs, HCSS, EHS Insight).
  • Valid safety certifications such as NHSA™ (National Health and Safety Administrator) / NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer), CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), or equivalent.
  • Audit, ISO 45001, ISO 9001 record training is preferred
