About Us: At Southview Acres Health Care Center, we’re dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to our residents. We’re currently seeking a motivated and skilled Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) or similar Medical Secretary certificate.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • High School diploma or GED completion.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Care software, particularly PCC, is preferred.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience in a healthcare or Senior living/care setting.
  • Experience in a customer service role is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of integrity and proficiency in problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology or coursework completed is advantageous.

Job Description: As a Health Unit Coordinator, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of healthcare operations within our facility. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Transcribing physician orders accurately and promptly from admission through discharge or death, following facility policies.
  • Coordinating visits, appointments, and transportation for residents in collaboration with physician/advance practice staff.
  • Ordering labs and x-rays and managing referrals for appointments.
  • Maintaining resident charts for admission, discharge, and hospital returns, ensuring all forms are current and accessible.
  • Participating in audits to uphold quality standards.
  • Providing professional and timely telephone support.
  • Serving as the receptionist for the assigned patient care unit, facilitating communication with other departments, physicians, and staff.

Physical Requirements:
While primarily a sedentary role, the position does involve standing, walking, and light lifting. Occasional assistance in the transportation of patients, specimens, and supplies, as well as patient moving and lifting, may be required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately read, transcribe, and process physician orders.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
