Department Overview The Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (TSICU) excels at providing evidence-based, relationship-centered care leading to optimal outcomes as well as the best patient and family experience. The TSICU utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach in the care and recovery of our trauma patients, liver transplant patients and general surgery patients. Patient populations include but are not limited to: Full trauma admissions and Modified trauma admissions (both categories defined by the Trauma Team Activation Policy). Patients may or may not present with extensive pre-existing co-morbidities. Patients frequently present with alcohol and/or drug abuse history. Esophagectomy, Pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple Procedure), Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantation (TPIAT), General surgery, which includes emergency surgery, Orthopedics, Liver transplant, Neurosurgery (Traumatic Brain Injuries), Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) Function/Duties of Position The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is part of the health care team and utilizes her/his knowledge and skills to support and enhance safety, patient experience, communications, and efficiency on nursing units. The HUC, under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, performs general non-clinical duties and specific services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the nursing department and OHSU. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. One year of clerical experience in a health care environment or equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide knowledge and skills listed below. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols. Ability to read, write and speak fluent English. Basic math skills. Demonstrated computer skills Demonstrated customer service skills Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
