Description

Role Introduction
We understand the unique needs of children and young people and the challenges and opportunities they bring.
Working for LCH in a secure environment is unlike any other role. We operate as a community within a community, providing services such as nursing, GP, pharmacy, dentist, optician, CAMHS, substance misuse, health promotion, and physiotherapy.
As a Healthcare Assistant at Wetherby YOI & Adel Beck, you’ll work with vulnerable young people across both sites. Your role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding. HCAs are integral to the team, participating in handovers, supporting health promotion, and sharing a collaborative workspace.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting clinical assessments, risk management, and health needs.
  • Assisting with nurse-led clinics, minor injuries, and emergency responses.
  • Delivering health promotion sessions to young people.
  • Managing stock, supporting procurement, and maintaining IPC standards.
  • Completing audits and working holistically with the CAMHS and substance misuse teams.

While experience with this client group or in secure settings is desirable, it’s not essential, as a thorough induction will be provided.
This role allows you to use and develop clinical and interpersonal skills while working with some of society’s most vulnerable children (aged 10–18) who face complex circumstances. It’s a chance to provide compassionate care and positively influence young people’s health, well-being, and future choices.
You’ll work closely with prison departments, education, safer custody, and probation, ensuring holistic care. At Adel Beck, services support children aged 10–17 in secure settings due to welfare or justice needs.
HMP Wetherby YOI offers excellent facilities, free parking, staff gyms, and a coffee shop, with easy access to Leeds, Harrogate, and York via the A1(M).
We require an enthusiastic full time healthcare assistant to work within the healthcare team at both HMYOI Wetherby and Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home in Leeds. The post holders will support qualified nurses in delivering healthcare services, to some very vulnerable and highly complex young people. Duties will include supporting G.P clinics, taking part in health promotion sessions, Sexual health screening, biological sampling, immunisation administration, phlebotomy, recording observations and providing support to young people on wing based / Unit based locations.
We are seeking to recruit staff who have a genuine desire to work with young people in a secure estate and who are passionate and committed to delivering high quality healthcare services that make a difference.
Experience of working with this client group and of working within a secure environment is desirable. You must hold the relevant NVQ level 2 or 3 or Care Certificate qualification or experience at working as a Health Care Assistant at Band 2 or 3 within a similar field.
