SALARY: £25,185 - £25,989 PER ANNUM
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our fantastic team at Prospect House Primary Specialist School
This is a Grade 3, permanent post working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 Inset days. The starting salary is £21,662, and the full time equivalent £25,185. The position is to start ASAP once pre-employment checks are complete.
We’re looking for:
- A Healthcare Assistant to provide 1:1 care of the day-to-day needs of individual pupil(s) under the direction of healthcare professionals and school staff. To support teaching and other staff in assisting the delivery of the curriculum and other learning processes, in direct contact with pupils.
- You will have previous experience working in a healthcare or education setting and ideally have relevant healthcare/medical qualifications. Previous experience administering of medication orally/inhaled/via gastrostomy and supplies management is essential.
- You will need to be able to communicate clearly and sensitively with sound literacy and numeracy skills.
Main purpose of the job:
Support with complex medical needs for identified pupil(s), you will be responsible for the supervision, care and implementation of their healthcare and education plan.
You will provide effective communication and engagement with students, their families and carers and other professionals in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupil(s).
Key responsibilities will include:
- To adhere at all times to the personalised plan of care for each child, and to school policies.
- Provide help with dietary needs, medication administration, mobility and personal care.
- Perform basic medical checks, such as monitoring a student’s blood sugar levels and temperature.
- Prepare and administer food and medication through a gastrostomy tube or orally.
- Ensure the safety of pupils by monitoring and reporting all concerns and any changes to line manager, health professional or parent / guardian as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records where required.
- Listen to concerns; recognise and take account of signs of change in attitudes and behaviour.
- To attend school staff meetings and to make a full and active contribution to the school through regular duties and willingness to attend residentials, to participate in sports events and extra-curricular activities.
