Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care:Assisting with tasks like washing, dressing, toileting, and feeding, ensuring service users’ comfort and hygiene.
  • Monitoring Patients: Taking and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration rate), observing and reporting any changes in a service users’ condition.
  • Assisting with Mobility: Helping service users move around, transferring them from bed to chair, and assisting with exercises.
  • Supporting Nutritional Needs:Preparing meals, feeding patients, and monitoring their food and fluid intake.
  • Infection Control: Implementing and maintaining strict hygiene practices, such as handwashing and using personal protective equipment, to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Emotional Support: Providing a caring and supportive presence, offering reassurance and comfort to service users and their families.
  • Communication: Acting as a link between service users, their families, and the wider healthcare team, relaying information and concerns.
  • Assisting with Procedures: Helping with basic procedures like taking blood samples, ECGs, and collecting specimens, often under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Documentation:Accurately recording observations, care provided, and any relevant information in service users’ records.
  • Promoting Independence: Encouraging and supporting patients to maintain their independence and participate in their own care, as appropriate.
  • Maintaining a Safe Environment: Ensuring the service users’ environment is clean, tidy, and safe, reporting any hazards or risks.
