About the Role Are you a proactive individual with a passion for patient care? We are looking for a dedicated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our tight-knit team at Ormiston Hospital. In this full-time position (40 hours per week), you will support our Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). You will ensure our patients receive a seamless, warm, and professional experience from surgery through to discharge. You aren’t just "extra hands" - you are a key player in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and positive atmosphere of our clinical environment. This is a rostered position requiring flexibility to meet the needs of our surgical schedule (please note that specific shift patterns will be discussed during the interview process). Your Key Responsibilities Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or an Enrolled Nurse, your day-to-day will involve: Assisting with patient transfers, positioning, and mobilising patients to discharge areas or vehicles. Ensuring beds are cleaned and made to infection control standards, restocking clinical trolleys, and managing sharps/waste safely. Transporting equipment to CSSD, managing linen supplies, and assisting the main theatre team when needed. Preparing patient refreshment trays (with a keen eye for dietary requirements) and maintaining a tidy kitchen/ward area. Communicating with patients in a warm, empathetic manner while upholding the vision and values of Ormiston Hospital. About You To be successful in this role, you will need: At least 2 years’ experience working in a surgical facility. Experience within a private healthcare setting is highly preferred. Completion of an NZQA Level 4 Healthcare Assistant accredited course or an equivalent qualification (e.g., an International Registered Nurse with an NZQA assessment). This role involves heavy lifting, patient transfers, and being on your feet - you must be comfortable with the physical demands of a busy hospital. Someone who proactively identifies tasks and jumps in to help the wider team. A commitment to delivering unbiased, culturally appropriate care to all patients.
