About the Position The Healthcare Director oversees and promotes the camper's and staff's general health and safety. They are responsible for maintaining the camp health house, administering medications, advanced first aid care, reviewing health histories, health screening checks, keeping accurate and detailed records, and ensuring that all health and wellness standards are met. This role may coordinate the transportation of campers and staff to outside health facilities as needed. Compensation for this position is $186 - $196 per day, with the starting rate dependent on previous employment at GSWW camps. For the 2026 season, overnight camp staff will divide their summer between Camp Robbinswold (located in Lilliwaup, WA) and Camp St. Albans (located in Allyn, WA). They will begin at St. Albans for the first week of training, then transition to Robbinswold for the second week. Staff will work three one-week camper sessions at Robbinswold, take a short break, and then complete three sessions at St. Albans. Requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facilitate the day-to-day healthcare operations to ensure the general health and safety of campers and staff, including routine medication and medical needs, assessing injuries and illness, maintaining all medical records, providing off-site transportation as needed, and following all healthcare policies and procedures Oversee all medication management for the camp including collection & storage, distribution, maintaining daily medication logs, and training staff on medication distribution and storage procedures during off-site trips or as needed Provide communication to camp staff and camper families as needed around camper health needs and concerns Facilitate weekly health checks during camper arrival, including verifying health histories and emergency authorizations, identifying any observable illness or injury, and medication collection Observe and evaluate the Camper Support Specialist, scheduling weekly one-on-one meetings to deliver feedback Facilitate staff training and orientation on camp’s healthcare procedures including staff’s role in healthcare & first aid, health center procedures, daily health assessment of campers, use of emergency medications, and health-related check-in processes for appropriate staff Manage the health care supplies and equipment in the health center and around camp, including initial and end-of-season inventory, and submit orders for new supplies and equipment as needed Assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the Camp Director Support and participate in implementing all camp activities such as meals, games, campfires, etc. Carry out established duties for general camp operations including check-in and check-out, bus supervision, camp cleaning, season opening and closing tasks, and completion of necessary paperwork This is a general description of the essential responsibilities of the position and is not inclusive of all job duties; other associated duties may be assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of and commitment to fostering environments that prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, racial justice, and belonging Comfortable working in a camp setting with a variable work week and hours, including overnight and weekend responsibilities Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds, with the ability to work under pressure Demonstrated ability to prioritize project tasks and deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards Knowledge of common injuries and illnesses and their treatment suitable to the age or participants and staff and activities offered at the camp Knowledge and experience in community health Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and caregiver letters Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to navigate technology programs and platforms independently including Microsoft 365; ability/willingness to learn new technologies, with CampMinder experience strongly preferred Supervisory Responsibilities This position supervises the Camper Support Specialist This position supervises all staff in their role as first aiders Education and Experience Required At least 21 years of age State license or is registered as a physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse Experience working with youth 6-17 years old A valid driver’s license and clean driving record and willingness to transport campers and staff in a 12-passenger van Preferred Skills and Experience Experience delivering healthcare in a camp setting Knowledge of Girl Scout program Other Qualifications Current certification in First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain Current certification of Youth Mental Health First Aid or willingness to obtain Satisfactory results from a criminal background check Work Environment: Summer camp is a fast-paced outdoor working environment with 24-hour-a-day responsibility. Employees are frequently exposed to loud noises, sensory stimulating situations, and physically demanding activities. Employees should feel comfortable with: Working outside in all weather conditions including heat, inclement weather, and specific environmental realities (humidity, wind, bugs, lake water) Residing in non-air-conditioned living quarters, with pit toilets as potential restroom facilities Living in communal living conditions with limited privacy and infrequent, minimal access to technology Demonstrating emotional resiliency and regulation to handle extended, repeated stressful situations appropriately Walking over unpaved, uneven, hilly terrain multiple times a day Lifting and carrying supplies and equipment up to 35lbs Responding to emergencies including utilizing skills to administer First Aid/CPR when necessary, including overnight Maintaining constant supervision and observation of program participants while assessing risk and participant safety
