The Hearing Instrument Specialist Trainee is a customer service expert and professional communicator, responsible for managing the administrative and clerical tasks related to the successful operation of the clinical operations, and completing tasks as assigned by the Audiology Business Manager. The incumbent will progress to become a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist during their tenure with the Practice. Duties & Responsibilities: Educate patients on the proper use and maintenance of hearing aids. Provide follow-up care to ensure patient satisfaction; assists patients with concerns or feedback, directing patients to appropriate party. Schedules appointments with either the Audiologist or Hearing Instrument Specialist, as appropriate. Responds to walk-in patient needs presented by the administrative staff. Contacts and responds appropriately to hearing aid vendors and manufacturers third-party vendors on behalf of patients and clinical staff Build and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers. Assist with hearing aid fittings and follow ups; reviewing paperwork, reviewing use and care, pairing Bluetooth devices, reviewing insertion of hearing aids. Assist with the delivery and review of insertion of ear molds and custom ear plugs. Assist the audiologists with testing as appropriate. This may include supporting the remote audiologist, placing headphones and test-probe tips. Clean, service, and maintain hearing systems, accessories, and devices and provide a level of triage to identify faults, conduct simple repairs and where necessary escalate to manufactures and other specialty agencies. Packages outbound items to be shipped, unpackages inbound items as received, maintains tracking information, as appropriate. Updates medical records, as appropriate, for devices assigned to a patient. Documents receipt of inventory and stock for devices; completes inventory reviews daily and anticipates clinical needs to ensure appropriate stock and inventory Ensures fiscally responsible ordering, specifically with regard to shipping costs. Enters charges and collects payments, as appropriate (e.g., repairs, loss and damage replacements, supplies, shipping costs, etc.). Documents all patient encounters and communications in the medical record. Requirements Associates degree or 60 credit-hours is REQUIRED; Associates degree with a focus on Computer Science, Information Technology, Human Resources, Communications, or Business Administration preferred. 2-3 years of experience in a customer service setting (i.e. healthcare, retail, food service, etc.). Current New York State Hearing Aid Dispensing License preferred. Proficient computer skills including ability to master the clinic’s practice management software (i.e. NextGen, Counselear, NOAH, etc.). Excellent written and verbal communication skills required as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals. Consistent professional conduct, meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and critical thinking skills and a positive attitude are essential. Life-long learner with the desire to grow in this position. Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $18 to $21. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual’s skills, education, experience, and qualifications.
