ROLE OVERVIEW The basic functions of the Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic are to: Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain mobile heavy-duty construction equipment, as well as company vehicles and other equipment as required, Understand and implement personal and company safety measures by wearing personal protection equipment, Perform all work to regulated organizational, as well as provincial and federal standards and procedures, adhering to the highest standards of safety. Key Roles Maintain, diagnose, inspect and repair Follow safe work procedures Work independently and as a team Clear communication, tidy area Complete tasks on time KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the following: Perform work in accordance with all organizational, as well as provincial and federal health and safety standards and legislation, ensuring highest standard of safety is upheld Check excavators, loaders, heavy truck and trailers, off-road trucks, and highway trucks for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment, commercial trucks and trailers Adjust, repair or replace part and components of automobile systems including fuel, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control, electrical and electronic Small engine repairs Service attachments and working tools such as blades, hammers, buckets Test repaired equipment to ensure work meets manufacturer’s performance specifications Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications and tune ups Perform daily maintenance or repairs on equipment or machinery as needed Inspect motor in operation, road test motor vehicle and test automotive systems and components to isolate faults Hydraulic troubleshooting Electrical troubleshooting Organize shop supplies Order parts when necessary Organize and distribute parts when received Weld and fabricate KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES The Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic will demonstrate the following in their daily work: Reliable, trustworthy Organizational abilities Problem solving skills Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to requests from others Ability to work as part of a team Attention to detail Physical stamina Customer service skills including the ability to communicate effectively with the general public Interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with other Coastal Mountain Excavations employees Operation of hand tools and other skills specific to the position QUALIFICATIONS Red Seal Certified Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic c/w Commercial Truck & Transport c/w Transport Trailer CVSE Inspector’s ticket Air conditioning ticket Class 1 Drivers’ Licence with Air Brake Endorsement COMPENSATION & BENEFITS $40.19-$42.43 per hour, depending on experience and education Vacation pay (calculated at 4% of total wages earned) Extended health, dental, and vision benefits Life insurance and wage loss insurance benefits Benefits eligibility: After completing 180 continuous days On-the-job training and career advancement ADDITIONAL DETAILS 7:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Saturday Shift Schedules (season dependent) Overtime required during busy periods, including weekends Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada Location Whistler, British Columbia Department Fleet Maintenance Employment Type Full-Time Minimum Experience Experienced Compensation $40.19 - $42.43
