Our Heavy Equipment Technicians play a critical role in this mission. They perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of equipment—always prioritizing safety and minimizing downtime. Our fleet includes bucket trucks, digger derricks, medium- to heavy-duty on-highway vehicles, light-duty trailers, small excavators, skid steers, Ditch Witch units, and various general construction tools and machinery.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong time management and organizational abilities; adaptable and capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; able to resolve conflicts and collaborate with team members and external partners.
  • Solid understanding of 12V electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to assess repair/maintenance decisions for both opportunities and risks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Physically capable of performing labour-intensive tasks and working in various weather conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital documentation tools..

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

  • Journeyman On-Road Heavy Duty Mechanic (Dual ticketed Heavy Duty Technician/Journeyman Welder an asset)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • CVIP Inspection Certificate
  • Valid Alberta Class 1, 3 driver’s license with air brakes (Q endorsement) is an asset

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and modify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, components, accessories, and attachments.
  • Check for wear, damage, defects, and performance issues; perform servicing, repairs, adjustments, replacements, reprogramming, and alignments as needed.
  • Follow Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs including oil sampling and A/B/C inspections, as well as CVIP inspections. Complete all associated documentation accurately.
  • Assist in the coordination, scheduling, and auditing of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs—including preventative, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic work on trucks, trailers, and other assets.
  • Accurately complete inspections, reports, work orders, and checklists to support the PM and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Demonstrate accountability and integrity while providing leadership and direction to apprentices on day-to-day tasks, ensuring workload and safety standards are met.
  • Mentor, coach, and train apprentices to develop technical skills and safe work practices.
  • Respond to local field service calls during regular work hours as required.
  • Ensure all work is performed with a focus on quality, compliance, and the safety of personnel and company assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
