Please visit our website at www.thompsonpipegroup.com   Position Summary The Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and other diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities * Perform complete diagnostic testing on diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, air brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, and HVAC systems using computer diagnostic tools and traditional methods. * Conduct preventative maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, tire services, brake inspections, and fluid services. * Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computerized system failures on heavy-duty trucks, and off-road equipment. * Disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble diesel engines, transmissions, and major components as needed. * Perform welding, fabrication, and custom repairs when required. * Test drive or operate vehicles and equipment to verify repairs and ensure proper performance. * Maintain accurate records of all services, repairs, parts used, and time spent using repair order systems. * Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins. * Adhere to all safety protocols, shop procedures, and environmental regulations (including proper handling of hazardous materials). * Provide emergency field service and roadside repairs as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements * High school diploma or GED required; technical school or apprenticeship in diesel technology preferred. * Minimum 3–5 years of verifiable experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic (truck, trailer, or heavy equipment). * Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, and electronic control systems. * Valid driver's license required * Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematics. * Must own or be willing to acquire a basic set of hand and power tools. * Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. occasionally and work in various weather conditions. Skills & Competencies * Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. * Proficiency with diagnostic software and scan tools. * Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Good communication and customer service skills. * Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work flexible hours including occasional overtime or weekends.
