Description The role of the Heavy Equipment Operator at Beacon Recycling is to operate various equipment such as forklift/hilo, skid steer, and loaders to lift, load, and sort metals or other material in a safe and accurate manner at our Wyoming facility, located: 1721 Chicago Dr SW Grand Rapids, MI 49519 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injuries or damage Operates loaders, skid steer, hilos, traveling or stationary cranes, and other various pieces of heavy equipment as needed to lift, move and position various materials and equipment; observes load hookup and determines safe load capacities Performs pre-start checks and maintains records Ensures that outside areas kept neat and clean and scraps and yard debris are appropriately recycled or disposed Reports safety hazards Assists customers in unloading provides delivery status information, inventory availability and answers related questions Other responsibilities as assigned WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed onsite at our Wyoming facility, primarily in an outdoor yard environment, and is subject to variations in temperature and weather, equipment noise and dust. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education High School Diploma or equivalent Work Experience 2+ years industry-related experience with tools and equipment is required SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to equipment operations Have the ability to learn to recognize and classify metals such as brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, squat, stoop, etc. for long periods of time Must be willing to learn and strictly follow all company safety procedures Ability to read, write and communicate in English to comprehend and follow written procedures, container labels and safety precautions Good attention to detail Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
