Heavy Equipment Operator / Field Technician Application Deadline: 7 August 2026 Department: Construction and Skilled Trades Employment Type: Full Time Location: Millersville Compensation: $27.00 - $30.00 / hour Description Underwood & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Machine Operator / Field Technician to support the construction of ecological restoration and stormwater management projects throughout Maryland and the surrounding region. This is a full-time, year-round, hourly non-exempt position with opportunities for overtime. Our work includes stream restoration, living shorelines, regenerative stormwater conveyance systems, wetland restoration, and other nature-based infrastructure projects. We are looking for a motivated individual who takes pride in quality work and can operate equipment safely and efficiently in challenging field conditions. Key Responsibilities Applicants must have demonstrated experience operating: Tracked skid steers Large excavators Experience working on restoration, utility, grading, landscaping, erosion control, or heavy civil construction projects is strongly preferred. ***Do not apply if you do not have real-world experience with heavy machine operation.** Responsibilities This job will alternate between machine operation and manual labor. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment Fine grading and material placement Working around wetlands, streams, shorelines, and sensitive environmental features Assisting with layout, erosion and sediment control installation, planting, and other Field Technician tasks (shoveling, raking, etc.) on a regular basis Equipment inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance Supporting crew members to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Strong heavy equipment operating skills Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions Ability to lift and carry materials associated with field construction work (50lbs average) Reliable transportation and punctual attendance Valid driver’s license required CDL strongly preferred but not required Spanish fluency strongly preferred Benefits Pay Range: $27-$30 per hour or more based on experience & certifications Overtime opportunities available Full-time, year-round employment Medical insurance (company pays 70% of employee premium) 401k with 3% match (eligible after 1 year) Opportunities for advancement and skill development
