You will lead a small team of operators and technicians while actively supporting production through safe and efficient equipment operation. This role is critical to ensuring performance in safety, product quality, and production output, while serving as a key link between frontline employees and site leadership. ---------------------------------------- HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT: You lead by example—showing up prepared, safety-focused, and ready to work alongside your team. You actively coach and support employees, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. You take ownership of daily results—monitoring production, addressing challenges early, and stepping in to operate equipment when needed. Your leadership ensures that operations run smoothly while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement. Shift Hours: 3:00PM - 11:30PM ---------------------------------------- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: TEAM LEADERSHIP & DAILY OPERATIONS * Lead, coach, and develop Heavy Equipment Operators and Utility Technicians * Conduct daily shift meetings covering safety, production goals, and priorities * Assign work and adjust tasks throughout the shift to meet operational needs * Provide real-time coaching and feedback to support team performance * Support onboarding, training, and employee development initiatives SAFETY & COMPLIANCE * Lead by example in all safety practices and enforce company policies * Conduct safety briefings, inspections, and observations * Ensure proper use of PPE and safe equipment operation * Identify and address unsafe conditions immediately * Support incident investigations and corrective actions PRODUCTION & QUALITY MANAGEMENT * Oversee composting operations including blending, aeration, turning, and screening * Monitor key indicators such as temperature, moisture, and contamination * Ensure adherence to operational standards and product specifications * Identify process issues and implement corrective actions EQUIPMENT OPERATION * Operate wheel loaders and other heavy equipment as needed * Perform pre-use inspections and report maintenance concerns * Support material handling, loadout, and housekeeping activities * Promote proper equipment use to maximize reliability and lifespan REPORTING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT * Maintain accurate production data, logs, and operational records * Track metrics such as throughput, tonnage, and equipment utilization * Communicate performance updates and improvement opportunities to leadership * Support continuous improvement initiatives across safety, quality, and productivity ---------------------------------------- QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED * 3–5 years of recent wheel loader or heavy equipment experience in a production environment * 1–2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience (Team Lead, Crew Lead, Foreman, etc.) * High school diploma or GED * Valid driver’s license * Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety and operational best practices PREFERRED * Experience in composting, recycling, agriculture, mining, or material handling operations * OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification * Experience with forklifts, skid steers, or screening equipment * Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement practices ---------------------------------------- SUCCESS PROFILE: To thrive in this role, the Heavy Equipment Operator Team Leader will demonstrate: Leadership & Team Development Effectively coach, guide, and support team members to achieve operational goals while fostering a positive work environment. Continuous Improvement Identify inefficiencies, suggest improvements, and support initiatives that enhance productivity and quality. Environmental Stewardship Handle materials responsibly to support sustainability goals and reduce environmental impact. ---------------------------------------- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit while operating equipment, as well as stand, walk, and use hands and arms to handle materials. The role may require climbing equipment, bending, stooping, and working on uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees may be exposed to dust, noise, moving equipment, varying temperatures, and uneven or slippery surfaces. Required PPE must be worn at all times in designated areas.
