GENERAL EXPRESS HAS AN IMMEDIATE OPENING FOR A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IN ELWOOD, IL.
The heavy equipment mechanic specializes in the maintenance and repairing of cranes, semi-trucks, semi-trailers, and other company assets. This position may perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades; as well as solving complex problems when the equipment malfunctions. This position must encompass self-sufficiency, leadership abilities, effective communication and professionalism in an effort to timely complete the necessary maintenance on all Company equipment. The technician position will work in a safety-first type of environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Must be able to be on-call and provide after hour services as required. Troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, and complete maintenance as needed/required.
- Communicate with the Service Manager during the day so that work can be scheduled and completed on a daily basis.
- Communicate with the Parts Manager on what is needed to complete repairs and follow-up to ensure they will arrive on a timely basis.
- Consult with operators and mechanics regarding all repair and safety related issues. Discuss recommendations that will assist the individual(s) with improving their mechanical equipment.
- Maintain all company issued equipment, vehicle, and assets in a safe and proper working order. Equipment should be maintained and presentable at all times.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. Notify immediate supervisor of any deficiencies.
- Maintain supply of Company forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
- Maintain the ability to work with others in team environment.
- Attend company provided trainings and seminars as required.
- Report daily progress and update business segments on scheduling future equipment needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Experience working with transport management systems
- Extensive background knowledge in the transportation and crane industry
- Experience reading manuals, equipment schematics, and
- Able to communicate with and schedule outside maintenance repairs as needed
- Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations
- Problem Solving skills
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
Education and Experience:
- At least 3+ years of crane and semi-truck repair & maintenance experience
- Must have a valid Commercial Class-A (CDL)driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Must always commit to working and driving safely
- Must be willing to work off the ground at various heights
- Must have basic computer skills to work with web-based crane inspection programs, maintenance programs, and manufacturer systems
- Must be able to read and diagnose from maintenance manuals/schematics
- Must be able to communicate well with others and work independently or as a team
- Knowledge of hand tools and/or possess hand tools
Physical Requirements:
- The work is labor intensive. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a daily basis.
- Must be able to lift up to 100lbs on a rare basis.
- This position requires 90% of frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting and prolonged standing and sitting. It requires occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling.
- The position also involves great hand and eye coordination.
- Heights exceeding over 20 feet from time to time are normal on a daily basis to maintain a crane.
- Employee will be required to travel and must be willing to work various shifts to accommodate needs of the Company branches and customers. This includes on-call and overtime. Travel out of town will be required at the discretion of the company.
