Job Title: Heavy Equipment Technician
Location: Ontario, Canada
Base Rate: $62.50/hr.
OT: 4 hours daily paid out at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.
Accommodations: Camp Accommodations
Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools Provided: Tools will be provided
Travel Time: Paid to and from the site daily and at each end of your set
About Us:
Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 100 employees and a fleet of over 30 fully tooled service trucks, taking care of customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We are looking for self-starters who are career-minded, ready, and willing to get the job done in a safe, positive manner, and must be able to work professionally with co-workers and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various types and brands of heavy equipment.
  • Utilize computerized and other testing equipment to determine repairs and create detailed service reports.
  • Transmission and drive-train repairs: repairing or replacing transmission components, differential gears, and drive shafts.
  • Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders.
  • Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and complete preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance.
  • Make recommendations regarding repairs and methods for improvement.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, site regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date certification and training as required.
  • Arrive at work fit-for-duty each day.

Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience working in the field, preferably working out of a service truck, working with off-road construction and mining equipment.
  • Candidates with Komatsu 5500 shovel experience would be considered an asset.
  • Candidates with Epiroc surface drill experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with mining equipment will be considered an asset.
  • Machine brands preferably worked on are Hitachi, CAT, John Deere, and Komatsu.
  • Must be a Journeyman Heavy Duty Off-Road Technician.
  • Red Seal needed if coming from out of province.
  • Solid experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting.

All Successful Candidates Must:

  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Pass a Criminal Record check
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably
  • Not seeking subcontractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time)
