Description Heavy Equipment Technician Classification: Hourly, Non-exempt Position Type: Full-Time, Operations Reports to: Fleet Manager Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to support our team across our various industrial uranium mining and processing operations. The Heavy Equipment Technician will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of vehicles and heavy equipment, and machinery to ensure safe and reliable operations. This position requires expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, along with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to workplace safety. The Heavy Equipment Technician will support plant operations, wellfields, and mobile equipment used in mining and processing operations. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, including: Tractors, backhoes, manlifts, forklifts, and industrial machinery Diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and suspension systems Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake repairs, tire services, suspension adjustments, and transmission servicing Fabricate parts or components as needed using hand tools, welding equipment, and schematics Operate and repair specialized equipment, including Caterpillar machinery and hydraulics Troubleshoot electrical systems, including automotive wiring, soldering, and diagnostic testing Use power tools and precision instruments for alignment, wheel balancing, and other mechanical adjustments Assist in assembly or disassembly of machinery during repairs, upgrades, or relocation Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards Perform heavy lifting and material handling safely, following all safety protocols Support preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime Maintain a clean and organized work environment Perform additional duties as assigned Working Conditions Exposure to extreme heat, high humidity, direct sunlight, and variable weather conditions Noise from industrial equipment and vehicles, requiring hearing protection Exposure to moving machinery, heavy vehicles, and rotating equipment Exposure to diesel fuel, oils, lubricants, welding fumes, process chemicals, and industrial cleaning agents/chemicals Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) in controlled environments Confined spaces during repairs and maintenance Remote field locations requiring travel on unpaved or uneven terrain Physical Demands Standing and walking for extended periods Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing ladders or stairways for extended periods Working in confined or awkward positions for extended periods Lifting and carrying materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently (heavier items with assistance) Repetitive use of hands and arm movements Visual acuity sufficient to inspect parts, read schematics and perform precise repairs Ability to wear required PPE and respiratory protection for extended durations Candidates must be able to successfully complete: pre-employment physical examination (if applicable), respirator medical clearance (if required) Requirements Qualifications Proven experience in automotive, industrial, or heavy equipment maintenance Hands-on knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspensions, and air brake systems Familiarity with electrical schematics and mechanical systems Skilled in welding, fabrication, and using hand/power tools Experience with diagnostic software, alignment tools, and precision measuring instruments Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks safely Strong problem-solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance Ability to read and write in English Must have a valid driver's license
