JOB TITLE: STUDENT ATTENDANCE LIAISON (bi-lingual required)
Helensview School is an accredited school that provides individualized instruction and specialized support services for youth ages 12-21 who have dropped out of school or are experiencing chronic attendance / behavioral issues. Helensview School provides multiple pathways to graduation with a standard diploma, academic, social service, and connection to post-secondary options. Students can access dual credit (on-campus agreements with multiple Colleges and Universities), Career and Technical Education (CTE) (6 approved programs of study including culinary, beats making and construction), and on-site job training through our student businesses. Helensview serves an ethnically diverse student population and seeks candidates with experience working in racially and ethnically diverse settings.
Position: Student Attendance Liaison Bilingual
Department: Student Services

Reports to: Building Administrator
Classification/Range: Classified
Schedule: 195 days per year, 8 hours per day

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Operate standard office equipment such as laptop computer, cell phone, pager, copier.
  • Good word processing computer and writing skills for reports and other communications, as well as the ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people from diverse lifestyles and cultures, socio-economic levels and disabilities in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to listen, make sound emergency or crisis decisions and effectively work with students and families in high stress environments.
  • Work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet project goals and deadlines while maintaining quality and compliance with state, federal or agency laws/regulations.
  • Experience, knowledge, and understanding of community resources. Knowledge and experience of the customs/culture of Mexico/other Latino countries.
  • Transportation available for on-the-job use. Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators and staff and representatives from multiple state, local and community based social service, health care, juvenile justice and law enforcement organizations and agencies.
  • Demonstrated coordination and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking preferred

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience or training working in needs assessment with at-risk students and their families
  • Experience as a Liaison with at-risk students and their families to plan and coordinate social services.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.

Responsibilities

To provide support in the Helensview community for students with attendance issues. To work with school personnel and ensure procedure is followed when notifying the family of the student’s truant behavior and a possible visit from the SAI (Student Attendance Initiative) team. To provide community coordination, crisis intervention, and direct support services to chronically absent and/or neglected students and their families.
