ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate a good work ethic and wiliness to learn
  • Demonstrate a good standard of computer literacy, particularly MS Office applications
  • Demonstrate excellent communication both written and verbal
  • Previous experience in a similar fleet role and as an HGV/LGV Technician (Preferred)
  • Previous experience with Plant, Small Trailers, Grabs and Hotboxes (preferred)
  • Good understanding of ‘The Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness’ & ‘Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) inspection manual’
  • Good Understanding of Class 4 & 7 MOT standards.
  • Diagnostics and fault-finding experience
  • Full Clean UK Driving Licence (Preferred Class 1)
  • Being Proactive, self-motivated, able to prioritise and remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our company values.
  • Attention to detail/ accuracy.
  • Previous experience in tyre replacement and wheel balancing

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our fleet. You will achieve this by delivering industry leading maintenance and support to drivers and all staff, by effectively collaborating with all departments you will be empowering them to operate vehicles safely, economically and in full compliance with the UK law.
This dynamic role demands flexibility and adaptability, including travel to different depots & sites across our workstream.
Shift: Monday – Friday days / 48 hrs, Weekend work 1 in 3 Saturdays as required
Location: March, Cambridgeshire & Sywell, Northamptonshire, this is a mobile Technician role and travel will be part of this role as and when required.
Salary: £42,000 + Van, FC + Overtime paid at hourly rate, after 8pm (time & half)
Core Hours: You will work 48 hours per week between the core hours of 6.00am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Diagnose faults in vehicles and determine the most effective repair methods
  • Perform maintenance and repair services on a variety of makes and models
  • Carry out inspections and road tests of vehicles to ensure they are safe and reliable
  • Complete all relevant paperwork and administration tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Order and maintain an inventory of parts and materials in both depots
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, Van and workshop
  • Adhere to company, RAMS, SSOW, policies and procedures
  • Support all staff in complying with the undertakings of the operating licence
  • Assist the Transport department with gate checks, vehicle compliance and transport audits
  • Monitor and assist all employees in having the ability to complete their daily tasks in accordance with UK compliance & road laws, health & safety & driver regulations without taking, or causing any additional risks; these include but not limited to
  • Liaising with all managers & supervisors daily, ensuring vehicles & trailers are compliant for daily use
  • Liaising with yard, workshop, operator, and fleet management departments to ensure all the depot targets are achieved regarding transport

  • Ensure all vehicle breakdowns are dealt with in a timely matter and facilitate calls when out of hours for breakdowns

  • Fully utilise the Samsara and R2C systems, fitment of tracking devices and cameras.

  • Understand that our business has operational challenges and changes, this role will need to adapt, perform and carry out the required changes for the business as and when required
  • Tyre management, periodic tyre inspections and replacements
  • Maintain accurate records for internal purposes and FORS to ensure each location meets all required standards in preparation for both external and internal audits
  • Assist with the raising of purchase order numbers
  • Provide cover for Holiday, absence or workload within the transport department
