Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, 5 days over 7 days, plus Saturday’s on a rota basis

BATA was established as a farmers’ cooperative in 1894 at Brandsby, North Yorkshire, 10 miles north of York. Today we are still an agricultural supply cooperative with 4,000 share members. We offer a wide range of products, including bulk and bagged animal feeds, pet foods, heating oil, LPG, timber, fencing, horse rugs, seeds or fertiliser, to name just a few.

EXPERIENCE

  • Fully Qualified HGV mechanic (NVQ level 3 or equivalent)
  • Must have a good depth and breadth of knowledge of diesel, hydraulic and electrics
  • Experienced in HGV workshop environment
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV desirable)
  • ADR trained (desirable)
  • Light fabrication and welding experience (desirable)

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated HGV Mechanic to join our team at Amotherby!
In this role you will work alongside other qualified mechanics to carry out regular servicing, maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles, and their equipment, ranging from vans to 44 tonne articulated vehicles in accordance with the principles outlined in the DVSA publication “Guide to Maintaining Road worthiness” and VOSA standards.
The ideal candidate will be organised, self-motivated and have excellent problem-solving skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out all maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with Operator “O” licence requirements.
  • Service and repairs of vehicles to a high standard.
  • Prepare vehicles for annual MOT inspection and ADR testing.
  • Diagnose faults and make necessary repairs in a timely manner to ensure maximum vehicle availability using computerised diagnostic equipment.
  • Repair driver reported Defects and record as actioned.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns as required.
  • Be prepared to travel away from home if required (call outs).
  • Complete necessary paperwork and records.
  • Carry out 6 weekly safety inspections to VOSA standard - liaising with department Transport co-ordinators to ensure maximum vehicle availability.
  • General workshop duties, including maintaining good garage housekeeping standards.
  • Work within the Health and Safety Policy.
  • To check with the Group Technical Manager or deputy for what action(s) are required for any feed safety incidents
