The role of an HGV technician is both varied and demanding covering a host of responsibilities that collectively represent the key tasks that as critical to our daily operations. The elements covered will be assigned by the Group Fleet Director to offer opportunities to enhance employee skill sets as well as create robust business contingencies.
Walkers Transport is a leading UK transport and third-party logistics specialist providing bespoke transport solutions to leading manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and distributors. Our team is currently looking for an experienced HGV Mechanic to ensure that the Fradley depot fleet is maintained and repaired to the highest industry standards, and to ensure that all vehicle compliance is met within the business. SKILLS

· Full driving licence – Class 1 would be an advantage although not essential
· Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic
· Qualified HGV mechanic or qualified by experience
· Good standard of verbal and written communication skills
· Able to use initiative and work alone
· Good understanding of the MOT test requirements and legislation
· IRTEC Qualified preferred but not essential
· Proven experience in diagnostics software

Responsibilities

· Perform minor and major repairs on lorries and trailers
· Conduct preventative maintenance on all vehicles in a timely, efficient and cost-effective way
· Inspections and MOT preparations
· Maintain parts inventory
· Maintain accurate records of each repair performed on vehicles
· Attend local breakdowns around the Fradley and surrounding areas
· Maintain a safe working environment
· Carry out additional tasks as requested by the Group Fleet Manager
