Hidaya Academy is looking to expand its Board of Directors. The Board plays a vital role in guiding the school’s mission, ensuring strong governance, and safeguarding the values of our Islamic tradition. Members are expected to bring not only their professional expertise but also their commitment to our students, families, and community. These criteria are designed to help identify candidates who can dedicate the necessary time, skills, and integrity to strengthen the school’s academic excellence, financial stability, and spiritual foundation. General Minimum Requirements Community Standing & Commitment Active and respected member of the local community. Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the school. Education Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution. School Engagement If their children’s grade levels is supported by the school must enroll all of their eligible children in the school. Exception: Parents with children on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) may be exempt. Faith Alignment Practicing Muslim, following Sunni practice Upholds Islamic values and ethics in personal and professional conduct. Personal Attributes Strong integrity and ethical judgment. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to confidentiality and conflict of interest standards. Availability & Service Commitment Willing to serve a minimum term (2 years). Able and willing to dedicate at least 6 hours per week to board responsibilities (meetings, time-sensitive communication, operations, school functions, committee work, and preparation). Board Giving & Fundraising Expectation Every board member is expected to contribute to the financial sustainability of the school. This contribution may take the form of a personal financial donation, active participation in fundraising initiatives, securing sponsorships or grants, or contributing professional expertise or in-kind services that add measurable value to the school’s operations. Specialized Qualifications To ensure a well-rounded board, we recommend additional expertise among board members. Board Member – Education/Academic Focus Professional background in education, curriculum development, school administration, or child development. Familiarity with educational policies, accreditation standards, and Islamic schooling best practices. Experience with student support programs, extracurricular activities, or special education is a plus. Board Member – Finance/Operations Focus Professional experience in finance, accounting, business operations, or organizational leadership. Strong financial literacy (budgeting, audits, fiscal oversight). Technology-savvy, with the ability to advise on systems, data management, or IT governance. Experience in non-profit management, fundraising, or community engagement is a plus. Experience in grant writing, fundraising, and identifying funding opportunities is highly desirable. *Exceptions can be granted by the board Location Champaign, Illinois (Hybrid) Employment Type Volunteer
