Responsibilities

We are seeking carers to join our team working with two young children, who both have cerebral palsy. They are two loving and joyful children who are growing up and exploring the world with the support of their family and a team of at-home carers. They attend kinder and primary school and love swimming, music and horse riding. The children are non-verbal, use wheelchairs and walkers to get around, and use a variety of medical equipment to help them live well.
We are looking for carers with experience looking after young children who are kind, caring, have a positive attitude, energetic, reliable, proactive and work well as a team.
The ideal candidate would have experience supporting children with special needs and be comfortable to incorporate therapy strategies into everyday routines (physio, OT, speech etc).
Training can be provided for the right candidate.

The role involves:

  • Personal care (e.g. feeding, bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming).
  • Play (e.g. floor based, arts/ craft, fine motor, technology switch games)
  • Basic household tasks (e.g. washing, meal prep and tidying)
  • Community access (e.g. kinder/ school transport, playground, outings to the zoo, the beach, swimming pool).
  • Mobility (e.g. transfers on/off floor, in/out wheelchairs, prams, chairs, car, toilet, bath, standing frames and supported walking short distances)
  • Medical care (training can be provided) of PEG tube feeding, giving medications, oxygen and BiPAP ventilation/ oximeter monitor at night.
  • Supporting non-verbal communication (training can be provided in AAC) using PODD book communication, aided language displays, key word sign, switches, speech generating devices.
  • Administration tasks (e.g. documenting activities, medication)

We are looking for staff who are available afternoon/ evenings, weekends and increased hours during school holidays. There is also a Saturday active overnight shift available. Additionally, there are extra shifts to cover sick leave or planned holiday leave.
To help consistency we are seeking staff that can work a minimum 3 shifts per week including at least 1 weekend shift, total hours between 20- 40 hours. There is flexibility of shift times for the right candidate.
