Internship Title:      Program Assistant  Internship Description/Learning Objectives:   Each member of the Adventure Science Center team is expected to deliver consistent, high-quality service with enthusiasm, professionalism, and respect for all ASC guests. The Summer Camp Internship provides hands-on, dynamic opportunities to support and implement innovative, active programming for summer camp participants while developing skills in teamwork, communication, and STEM-based education.   Job Duties:       The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the camp and youth programs department. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in program coordination, administration, and youth services while learning how programs serve children and families.   Core Responsibilities * Support the Camp Director and program team with daily administrative and operational tasks * Assist with program logistics, including schedules, attendance, supplies, and materials * Help prepare program spaces, activity materials, and resources for daily use * Assist with camper records, rosters, and basic data entry * Support communication with families by helping draft emails, updates, or program materials * Serve as a friendly point of contact for staff, campers, and families as needed * Assist during program transitions, special events, or activities * Occasionally support classroom needs by assisting counselors, gaining hands-on experience in program operations. * Observe and learn how programs are planned, implemented, and evaluated * Support staff onboarding or training logistics when appropriate * Complete daily reflections and participate in mentorship check-ins with Camp Director * Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive attitude at all times Qualifications: * Must be 18 years of age or older * Must be entering their senior year of high school or have already recently graduated * Interest in program coordination, administration, or youth services * Ability to work in a professional office and program setting * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Reliable, punctual, and dependable * Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Willingness to learn and take initiative Learning Outcomes By the end of the internship, the Program Assistant Intern will gain experience in: * Program planning and coordination * Professional communication and teamwork * Customer service and family engagement * Organization, time management, and problem-solving * Understanding how youth programs support children and families Preferred Competencies:   * Interest in education, youth development, or nonprofit work * Basic computer skills (email, documents, spreadsheets) * Strong organizational skills * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, lead others * Positive and professional demeanor when interacting with families, staff, and campers * Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow in a supervised environment * Ability to follow directions, policies, and procedures * Attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks * Adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic program setting * Demonstrates sound judgment and professionalism * Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy * Comfortable supporting group activities and classroom environments * Demonstrates patience, empathy, and emotional awareness when working with youth and families     General Information: Work Schedule Days and Hours:   Monday – Thursday; 9am- 3:30pm (30-minute unpaid lunch break is included Dress Code:   ASC uniform shirt (provided)    Bottoms: Solid colored pants or shorts. Shorts must be 2 inches above the knee. Skirts may be worn, as they as they do not interfere with your ability to perform on the job. Leggings, yoga pants or sleepwear are not permitted.    Shoes: Closed toed shoes or tennis shoes. Flip-flops, sandals, or open-back shoes are not permitted.    Hats: Hats or head coverings may be worn only for job-related or approved purposes. On hot summer days, hats or visors may be worn outside only and must be removed before entering the inside work environment. Bonnets do rags, and sleep caps are not permitted.    Clothing must be clean, neat, and free of rips, tears, or inappropriate graphics or language. Attire should be comfortable and allow for ease of movement while performing job duties. Personal hygiene must be maintained to support a professional and welcoming environment. Weather-appropriate outerwear may be worn, provided it does not restrict movement or visibility. Jewelry should be minimal and suitable for an active work environment; dangling or hazardous accessories are not permitted.   During camp, there may be occasional Spirit Week activities that allow for variations from the typical work dress code. Interns are welcome to participate, provided their attire and participation do not interfere with their ability to perform job duties, and all dress code requirements are still met. Travel Required:   None               Physical Requirements:   This role typically involves walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted, or up to 50 pounds with assistance). There may also be periods of extended sitting at a desk and working with computer screens.    Working Conditions: (example: Office Warehouse, Outdoors, with Children or Animals, etc.)   Primarily indoors in an office, classroom, and camp setting, with occasional outdoor activities. Camp takes place during the museum’s normal business hours, so some communication or interaction with general admission guests may occur simultaneously.      The full program is June 1st – July 17th    June 1st – June 3rd:   Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am – 12pm. June 4th:                      Attend employer orientation meeting. June 5th:                      POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport June 9th – July 17th:   Youth will report to their employer worksite location on Monday –                                         Thursday or special schedule workday at the time                                          scheduled by employer.  You will be scheduled to work 6.5 hours daily                                       which equals 24 hours per week.   Friday Co-Horts:            Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned locations at 8:00am to  12:00noon on Fridays.     July 17th:                     POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times.
