Interns will strengthen their communication skills, build leadership confidence, learn the foundations of marketing and community engagement, and participate in real-time project development. Learning objectives include demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, task completion, public speaking growth, and creating a small portfolio of completed work. An interview is required to be selected for this site. Job Duties:   Interns will participate in leadership and communication training, assist with social media content and publications, support planning and implementation of a community service project, and contribute to youth-focused educational materials. They will work both independently and in teams, maintain professionalism and respect at all times, complete assignments on schedule, and represent themselves. Applicants must complete an interview and be selected based on professionalism, communication skills, and demonstrated interest in leadership development. Preferred Competencies:   Applicants should demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills, strong leadership potential, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently and in teams. They must show high motivation, responsibility, and integrity; maintain focus, respect peers/self/staff, complete tasks without disruption that violate any MAC policies; and exhibit consistent professional behavior with no disciplinary concerns. Ideal candidates are goal-oriented; interested in community service, public speaking, marketing, or youth programming; willing to try new things; and able to follow a business-casual dress code.    General Information: Work Schedule Days and Hours:   8:00am - 2:30pm Monday - Thursday Dress Code:   Interns are required to follow a business-casual, professional standard at all times. The program provides two team shirts, which must be worn during scheduled workdays and weekly training sessions. Interns may wear black pants, khaki pants, or khaki shorts. Distressed, torn, or ripped jeans are not permitted. Travel Required:   Location will be accessible by Metro Transit. Physical Requirements:   Interns must be able to participate safely in program activities with or without reasonable accommodation. This may include sitting, standing, walking, and helping set up or break down materials for events (lifting up to 20 pounds). Because this is a workplace training environment, interns are expected to arrive ready to work, remain alert and engaged, follow all safety instructions, and maintain appropriate physical and verbal boundaries with staff and peers. Sleeping during program hours, substance use or possession, vaping, profanity, bullying, and any behavior that compromises safety, respect, or learning are not permitted. All interns must strictly adhere to all Metro Action Commission (MAC) behavior and conduct requirements. Accommodations will be provided as needed in accordance with MAC policies. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. There are opportunities to intern in many areas of Nashville, so please select the opportunity based on your access to transportation.       The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how they view themselves and their future.
Responsibilities
Interns will assist with social media content creation, publications, and the implementation of community service projects. They will also participate in leadership training and contribute to the development of youth-focused educational materials.
