About the Role:

At Scholars Education Centre West Springs, we know that expertise in Grade 12 Calculus or Chemistry is only half of the equation. The more important half is the ability to connect with students, observe how they learn, build their confidence, and coach them through academic frustration.

We are seeking a High School Math & Science Tutor who understands that teaching begins by building deep connections with students to allow them to open up to learning. You aren't here to just mark worksheets or lecture, you are here to build trust, make high-level concepts approachable, and guide Grade 9–12 students toward long-term academic success.

What You’ll Do:

  • Coach & Connect: Build rapport with high school students, adapting your communication style to match their unique personalities and learning paces.
  • Deliver Results: Teach in a 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio using Scholars’ proven methodology, ensuring students receive individualized mentorship and active guidance.
  • Simplify Complex Ideas: Break down high-level Alberta curriculum concepts (Math 30-1, Physics, Chemistry, Biology) into engaging, understandable steps.
  • Track Growth: Monitor student progress meticulously, offering genuine encouragement and feedback to help them reach their personal goals.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Subject Mastery: Ability to teach the Alberta Math curriculum up to Math 30-1, along with Grade 12 level competency in at least one core science (Physics, Chemistry, or Biology).
  • Relational Intelligence: A natural ability to engage with, connect with, and coach students who may feel anxious, disengaged, or overwhelmed.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional oral and written English, with the ability to explain the same concept three different ways if a student gets stuck.
  • Structure & Detail: High organizational skills to manage up to 3 students at a time effectively, while providing students with equitable time and attention.
  • Experience: Previous experience tutoring, teaching, coaching youth, or working with teens is strongly preferred.
  • Bonus: Competency in additional high school subjects or higher-level math (Math 31) is a strong asset.
  • Flexibility: Ability and willingness to teach a wide range of grades and subjects
