JOB OVERVIEW

The Secondary Mathematics Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics instruction to high school students during the summer semester at Roots to Routes Academy. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment to help students achieve their academic goals.

SKILLS

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Proficient in classroom management techniques to maintain a productive learning atmosphere.
  • Familiarity with educational technology tools to enhance teaching methods.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.
  • Ontario Certified Teachers are preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and deliver mathematics lessons to secondary students (grades 8-12) according to the academy’s curriculum.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through regular quizzes, assignments, and feedback.
  • Provide individualized support to students, addressing specific learning needs and helping them improve their mathematical skills.
  • Develop and implement classroom activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, social emotional learning (SEL), and a love of learning.
  • Collaborate with other educators and the Lead Educator to align instructional practices and improve overall program effectiveness.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom dynamics.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings as required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
