Description

ABOUT OUR CLIENT

Our client is a vibrant 9-year-old girl who lives with her family and is educated at home and in the community. She does not attend school and receives support from a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. She has an acquired brain injury and is autistic, with complex communication, interaction, and sensory processing needs.
She flourishes in environments that are calm, predictable, and nature-based. She is mobile and interacts nonverbally, using PECS and hand-leading to communicate. Her learning and development are supported through bespoke strategies tailored to her unique profile.
T is full of energy and leads a highly active and varied life. She enjoys spinning, bouncing, swimming, going on her trampoline, playing at the park, watching TV and shows on her interactive whiteboard, and looking at books. She has made significant progress over the past few years with the right support and continues to show great potential.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a compassionate, creative, and proactive individual to support our 9-year-old client in her home and community-based education and care. You will play a key role in helping her achieve her educational, developmental, and rehabilitation goals by following her personalised care and learning plans.

You will be:

  • Kind, positive, and reliable, with the ability to build a trusting relationship with our client.
  • Observant and sensitive to her bespoke needs, especially around communication and sensory processing.
  • Playful and engaging, able to make decisions in the moment and adapt to a variety of activities.
  • Collaborative, working closely with her integrated therapy and education team to create learning environments that promote play and interaction.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Ideally, you will have at least one year of experience supporting individuals with complex behaviours or sensory needs.
  • Experience in SEN, early years, nursery settings, or using a play-based learning approach is highly desirable.
  • A good general standard of education (GCSE or equivalent) is required to support her learning.
  • You must be comfortable with nonverbal communication methods such as PECS and hand-leading, and skilled in presenting information in a way that allows time for processing.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Due to occupational requirements, this role is open to female applicants only.
  • You must be a driver aged 21 or over, with a full UK driving licence, as you will be using the client’s Motability vehicle for outings.
  • You must be a confident swimmer, as swimming is one of her favourite activities.
  • You should be an animal lover, happy to be around the family’s dogs, cat, gerbils, and chickens, with no relevant allergies.
Responsibilities

We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who can oversee agreed learning activities under the supervision of a qualified teacher. The role involves delivering T’s learning opportunities both in the family home and in the community, while also supporting her communication development and participation in community activities as directed by the multi-disciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A positive outlook on life
  • The ability to be observant and sensitive to T’s bespoke needs
  • A warm and engaging manner to connect with her charming personality
