Overview ABOUT THE POSITION VHB’s Raleigh, NC team is looking for a Highway Safety Intern for Summer 2026. The selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to save lives and prevent injuries from motor vehicle crashes. The successful candidate will have an interest in transportation safety, an enthusiasm for working in a team environment, and a willingness to explore creative solutions to traditional safety challenges. Responsibilities Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions Assist in data mining and visualization Perform analysis of data or calculations Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports Perform all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures. Skills and Attributes Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently. Strong prioritization skills. Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of design and mapping tools such as OpenRoads Designer and ArcGIS. Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Qualifications Currently pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
