Description The HIM Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Health Information Management department. This role is responsible for the integrity, confidentiality, and security of health information across the organization. Key focus areas include managing the Revenue Cycle (Unbilled), Master Patient Index (MPI), Medical Record Imaging, and Release of Information (ROI). As Director, you will partner with the Facility Privacy Officer (FPO) to ensure strict adherence to HIPAA and state/federal regulations while fostering a culture of data quality and operational excellence. Record Integrity: Monitor incomplete and delinquent medical records, communicating findings to hospital leadership and committees to ensure timely completion. Revenue Cycle Support: Oversee discharge record processing to facilitate prompt coding and billing. Patient Identity: Coordinate MPI integrity activities, including duplicate resolution and patient identity management. Forms & Imaging: Serve as Chair/Co-Chair of the Facility Forms Committee and oversee imaging functions to ensure timely scanning, indexing, and quality assurance. Privacy & Compliance: Partner with the FPO to safeguard ROI processes and ensure compliance with HIPAA and state privacy laws. Leadership & Strategic Responsibility Team Development: Lead, mentor, and schedule departmental staff; conduct performance evaluations and foster a positive, professional work environment. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, resource allocation, and long-term department goals. Quality & Audits: Oversee accreditation processes and participate in audits to ensure services meet or exceed industry standards. Technology & Innovation: Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance HIM workflows and operational efficiency. Requirements Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required (Master’s Degree preferred). Experience Substitution: 7+ years of direct experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience: 3–5 years of closely related HIM experience required; 3–5 years of previous leadership experience preferred. Certifications: RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Expert knowledge of HIM best practices and regulatory compliance. Strong proficiency with EHR systems, Google/Microsoft platforms, and data analysis tools. Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to manage cross-functional relationships and meet strict deadlines.
