WAGE— We value your work
- For ECEs, the first three training months we pay $27 per hour (including Wage Enhancement). After 3 months, the pay goes up to $29 per hour (including Wage Enhancement). Every year afterwards, we provide increases based on performance evaluations. We’re looking for people who are committed to developing relationships with our kids and building on their professional development over time.
- After 3 months, full-time employees can opt in to our extended medical benefits program with Sunlife.
- Staff get paid breaks during their shift
- Six sick days
- Free pro-d training six times a year and opportunities to attend conferences.
- Staff get paid bonuses during the three closure periods - December, March, and August. Plus they still get regular 2 weeks vacation pay to use throughout the year.
MUST HAVES—To save you some time, please ensure you tick off all the boxes on this list to be eligible
- Hold Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Have a current ECE Certificate and has a license in good standing that is valid in British Columbia. Sorry we are not accepting just ECEA certificates at this time. We typically hire ECEAs during the summer.
- A valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Up-to-date record of immunizations
- Be in adequate physical and psychological capability to work with children and carry out assigned duties
- Have a clear Criminal Record Check, including a vulnerable sector search, dated within six months of your commencement date with the Centre
- Previous experience working with children in a child care/recreation setting
- 2 Practicum or Childcare Workplace Written References
- Up to date resume
- Well written cover letter
NICE ADDITIONS TO HAVE—Not required, but a bonus
- Passion for the learning outdoors
- Bachelors’ degree in related field is an asset
- Experience, interest and/or understanding of Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio, Free-Play, Forest School, and Whole Child philosophies
- A knowledge of the local flora and fauna.
- Food Safe Certificate
- Class 4 Driver’s License (or willingness to obtain their Class 4)

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER—Some duties that are usually implied in most job descriptions
- Contribute to the on-going operation of the Centre.
- Ensure the Centre meets all requirements of the Child Care Licensing Regulations on a daily basis
- Maintain a neat, orderly and clean environment in all activity and program areas
- With the support of the Manager, facilitate a respectful conflict resolution process when dealing with difficult staff and parent/guardian issues
- Implement a problem-solving approach with practical solutions when faced with difficult situations
- Must reliably maintain regular attendance and be flexible to accommodate changing schedules
- Willingness to participate in work-related courses, seminars and training as required
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the Centre, staff, children and their families
- Perform other related duties as required
