Job Description: Histology Technician Certified Prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologist. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location Demonstrates a general knowledge of histologic techniques, procedures, and safety precautions EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES Must meet current qualifications listed under section “Clinical Laboratory Personnel Requirements” defined in the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Act of 1988 (CLIA-88) and Oregon Department of Human Services Regulations, College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission standards. CAP reserves the right to set requirements that are more stringent than those of CLIA-88 (Copy of academic degree/transcript required upon hire if performing Moderate Complexity Testing) Registry as Histology Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent EXPERIENCE Experience with LIS and HIS computer systems, tissue processor, embedding center, automatic stainer, automated coverslipper, analytic balance, automated microtome, microwave, microscope, telephone, tissue flotation bath, volumetric glassware, cryostat and recycler GENERAL INFORMATION Union Affiliation: UFCW The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
