Job Description: Performs both routine and complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and immunofluorescence on tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist to diagnose disease. Must be knowledgeable in the areas of pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histotechnology Job Responsibilities: Perform all duties of the technical assistant as necessary, including accessioning Gross patient tissue according to protocol Carefully and efficiently embed tissue according to protocol. Produce diagnostically optimal sections at an acceptable rate Performs routine and special stains. • Performs Immunohistochemistry procedures Performs routine and high complexity testing File paraffin blocks. Alert lead tech and supervisor of low inventory of supplies and reagents Performs and documents maintenance on equipment Helps troubleshoot equipment issues. Document quality issues Communicate problems effectively Read and follow all policies and procedures Participates in quality assurance activities. Read emails and respond accordingly. Engage with everyone in a respectful and professional manner Demonstrate teamwork by assisting others when possible Performs other duties when assigned Evaluate test controls and help troubleshoot problems Help maintain a clean and safe work environment.
