POSITION SUMMARY

The History/Maritime Career Coach arresponsibilities include: curriculum development, maritime program coordination, and direct instruction to students.
MACS has a culture of respect and kindness. Staff are expected to exhibit respect and kindness for all staff, students and families while maintaining school expectations both behaviorally and academically. Staff work collaboratively with administration and staff for the benefit of all MACS students. Regular and predictable attendance are essential functions of this position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Additional PA teaching certifications preferred
  • Commitment to urban education and a belief that all students should be held to high academic standards
  • Strong content knowledge
  • Highly skilled at teaching a standards-based curriculum and incorporating innovative approaches to instruction
  • Ability to deliver engaging lessons
  • Experience in using data to drive instruction and inform decision making
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, teamwork and leadership skills
  • High physical and emotional energy
  • Strong technology skills
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to “wear many hats”

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Staff are regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Instruct students in various maritime/marine science/transportation themes as appropriate to their grade and in conjunction with the academic subjects
  • Develop instruction collaboratively with academic teachers
  • Assist in the development of the overall school maritime program in collaboration with the high school program
  • Participate as part of the school faculty in all professional development activities
  • Assist the school Administration with the integration of maritime, transportation/logistics and marine science material into traditional academic subjects
  • Assist in administration of USCG student MMD documentation program
  • Participate and instruct in the water sports program and the maritime jobs program
  • Supervise and accompany students on field trips both ashore and afloat in connection with the maritime curriculum
  • Other duties as assigned
