Description
A busy dermatology practice is looking for a full time Histotechnican for their in-house pathlab. Classification: Hourly Pay Range: Starting at $30.00 based on certification, experience and proficiency. Department: Pathlab Reports to: Pathlab Director/Aurora Office Manager JOB DESCRIPTION Summary Under the direction of the Pathlab Director perform the below essential job functions: Essential Functions Accounting and Counting of incoming specimens into the lab Accessioning Writing Cassettes Impressions Grossing excisions and non-excisions Embedding Processing Cutting and generating slides Staining Cover-slipping slides Labeling the slides and getting them ready for Dr. Amsbaugh to read Maintaining the Processor, Embedder, Block Trimmer and Stainer Maintain quality control statistics Perform daily count of specimen and slides and maintain spreadsheet on a daily basis. Monitor specimen from all office location are being received in the lab in a timely manner. (within 48 hours) Filing away the slides and blocks Monitor the lab supplies, including the printer and label supplies. Order required lab printer and label supplies and have it in stock in the lab at all times Store the supplies received in a timely manner (within 24 hours) Sending out and receiving slide and block requests and logging them accordingly Respond to incoming phone calls, email and intramail Reconcile lab invoices for supplies and test request. Maintain and update lab expense form regularly and send out to Candice at end of the month. Maintaining a clean lab environment. Competencies Tissue identification and microscopy Accessioning Fixation Processing Embedding Microtomy Routine and special nuclear and cytoplasmic stains Frozen sectioning (cryotomy) Instrumentation Laboratory mathematics Frozen sectioning (cryotomy) Laboratory health and safety Must be reliable and a self-starter. Required Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements/Skills Must be a Registered Histology Technician (ASCP) or be eligible for such registration or have a high school education and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Histology Technician or have a minimum of one year’s training under the direction of a registered Histology Technologist. Bachelor’s degree preferred 1+ years as a histotechnician preferred Experience with EMR (electronic medical records), medical terminology preferred Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures. Records maintenance skills. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Knowledge of rapid tissue processing and frozen section techniques. Ability to prepare slides and/or specimens for microscopy using established protocols and techniques. Ability to utilize, troubleshoot and maintain computerized laboratory and/or histological equipment.
Responsibilities
Perform essential histology functions including specimen accessioning, grossing, embedding, and slide preparation. Maintain laboratory equipment, manage supplies, and ensure quality control statistics are updated daily.
